Not quite the same problem but several months ago my hard drive died at work. Our IT person took it out and slaved it to another computer. He then rebooted that computer using Linux as the OS. I was able to get every file I needed off of the old hard drive. Theoretically if you can treat the reader and Flash card as a drive I assume you could have the same result. I believe that Linux is freeware but I am guessing you would want to burn it to a CD or DVD and boot from that. I was very impressed at how it worked on a corrupted hard drive.
